Haavoo - Business directory platform that scaled reliably to 5k businesses

We delivered the stable MVP of the platform that includes Admin panels, Web Portal and Android and iOS apps, which is being used 5K businesses to date. We have kept the cost of building MVP to a minimum that helped clients to test the business idea at minimum risk.

Two business enthusiasts from Kerala have recognized the challenges local businesses and shop owners face in terms of getting discovered online. The online presence of a business is a must-have in today's world even for local businesses that have been running an offline model for decades now.

However, many of these businesses are not aware of how the online presence of businesses could help them significantly increase their lead generation. Some of these businesses who are aware or want to try online mediums for increasing their lead generation face challenges in setting up their websites because of high setup charges or lack of knowledge to use DIY platforms.

On the other hand, it has been recognized that consumers also struggle to find good quality and cost-effective services and products in their locality many times.

Clients wished to put all the professional knowledge they have acquired working at strategic positions in global enterprises, and build a web platform that maintains a directory of the business based on its location and city. The platform would connect these businesses with their prospective buyers. It would help businesses increase their lead generation on one hand while helping consumers find better and more cost-effective services and products in their location on other hand.

The clients were looking for a reliable tech partner who could help them build a stable platform that fulfilled the following objectives

  • Consumers should be able to find services and products within their locality quickly and easily through the platform.
  • The platform is for local businesses and shop owners who are not tech-savvy and well acquainted with using web portals, we have to build the solution such that we can engage these users and encourage them to use the platform.
  • There should be minimum friction for businesses to renew subscriptions, setting up auto-renewal would be ideal
  • The client wanted to verify their business idea by launching an MVP at minimum cost.

We have delivered the platform where consumers can search for services and products they are looking for from a on web portal hosted haavoo.com or mobile apps hosted on respective stores.

Businesses can get listed on the platform by filling in their basic details by clicking the “Register by business” button on haavoo.com. We have also built a module in admin web portal from where Haavoo sales/ operation team would be able to register the business on behalf of them.

Businesses once registered would be able to manage their service and product details and subscriptions by logging into the dedicated web portal built for them.

Also, we have built an admin web portal for the platform's operation and sales team, where they could manage subscriptions of all the businesses and other configurations of the platform. The admin module provides role-based access to the operation team for efficiently managing the platform.

  • We have designed the consumer's web portal and apps such that it let consumers search for services and products without asking them to log in first. The consumer is asked to login only after he has found the service or product he was looking for and needs the contact details of the business to connect with them.
  • We have implemented intelligent search using elasticsearch which improves consumers' search experience by fetching highly relevant results, ignore minor spelling mistakes or typos, and significantly improving search speed.
  • Suggestions are displayed while the consumer is typing his search query to improve the quality of his search string and help him find what he is looking for faster.
  • We request consumers to allow portal or app pick his current location so that it can display search results near to his locality.

  • After the launch of the platform we have learnt that one of the major roadblocks sellers are facing in registering their businesses was uploading business images in specified sizes. We have removed the restriction for business owners to upload images in appropriate sizes. However the check is kept intact for operation team, so operation team has to resize inappropriate size images on behalf of businesses during verification.
  • We have built modules in admin portal for the sales and operation team of the platform to support business owners with registration, managing their business data, and subscriptions. These modules can also help the operation team to do these operations on behalf of business owners.
